Considering that Universities are based on the pillars of teaching, research, and extension, it is imperative to use methods to evaluate their technical-scientific production. Through scientometrics, the technical-scientific contribution in certain areas is measured, identifying institutional potentialities and opportunities. Through a case study at the Federal University of West Pará (UFOPA), the following problems were observed in the management of its research: i) difficulty in collecting and organizing the institution’s research data; ii) lack of integration with institutional systems; and iii) little transparency in technical-scientific productions. Such facts impact the efficiency of research management. In order to solve the aforementioned problems, this study involves data analysis to assist in decision-making regarding the institution’s research calls. Through the analysis, it was identified that some institutes have relevant and competitive technical-scientific production within the national scenario, while others have teachers with low production but access to the
scientific initiation scholarship program. In addition, it was found that the main topics of projects and work
plans are related to sustainable regional development, with the aim of understanding the region’s particularities and promoting economic and social advances. The results obtained allowed greater transparency, social insertion of the university, and data-driven decision-making capacity, providing assistance to research and innovation management and evaluation of techno-scientific policies. It is hoped that the product will enable greater efficiency in the management of public resources, fostering inter and intra-institutional partnerships, and increasing the impact of research. The approach adopted is scalable and can be used by other Science and Technology Institutions.
